Hairy crab

Hairy crab aka big binding crab (大閘蟹) or Shanghai hairy crab (上海毛蟹)

I have heard lots abt hairy crab and how delicious the roe is... how famous a delicacy in Shanghai cuisine and is prized for the female crab's ovaries. Obviously I had my hopes too high. Last nite, was my first time to savor this delicacy...
I really had my hopes too high, the roe is good but not enough to satisfy me. I thought I will have the orgasmically good feel when I bite on it, but alas.... it was indeed disappointing plus the fact that the meat is not at all sweet... (I also learnt that they are half fresh water as they spend most of their life in fresh water, but they must return to the sea to breed).

Half way while eating, I told my mum and ed that the roe taste more like salted egg yolk. :) It made ed's day cos he laughed non stop when he thought of how many salted egg he can buy with $60 (I got it at a good rate for $20.90 each thru some lobang from Tung Lok).

haha... so much so for my hairy crab. I think I was more intrigue with the crab surviving in my fridge for 2days and the noises they made.
